more anatomy appreciation

Today , we had our very first anatomy practical.
The instructor was a surgeon/pathologist, with a morbid sense of humor,
wickedly funny with many stories about creepy diseases and horror operations/autopsies .
Like for example, once he had to conduct an autopsy, and when he got the brains out he felt that the brain was still warm ,
so the person had only died a few hours ago while they thought he had been dead for several days ... thats creepy.

He handled the organs WITHOUT GLOVES (ickie ) and rubbed his nose several times while poking in intestines and livers
(another ickie, organ juice hands rubbing a nose aren't pleasant to look at ).
We had the chance to look at lung cancer , a liver with Cirrhosis ,several hearts with bypass and other pleasant dysfunctional organs.
Most of these came from elderly people so actually they were all a bit damaged.

Really this has been the most awesome thing that we did this year, and it has made a great impression on me.
Seeing all these tiny organs ( they are way smaller than you think) was very educational ,it's so hard to find certain artery's on real organs ,
especially when the instructor holds a stinky hart under your nose and wants you to find the A. coronaria dextra or something like that.
it's such a messy brown blubber (although the color was changed from preserving the organs)
My respect for surgeons got even bigger after today ^^

Dat zou echt NIETS voor mij zijn. Ik mag er niet aan denken dat ik organen zou moeten zien, laat staan aanraken. Ik heb zo al genoeg nachtmerries. :P

aanraken moest ook niet hoor :p
